David has been Organist & Director of Music at Saint Chad's Metropolitan Cathedral in Birmingham since 1978.

He directs the Cathedral Singers, an adult chamber choir of some 20 voices, in repertoire ranging from plainsong and polyphony to the present day. The choir sings at the Sunday 11.00am Mass at Saint Chad's Cathedral during term, as well as the 6.00 pm Mass on Holydays, and at Christmas, Holy Week and Easter.


The Cathedral Singers under David’s direction undertook concert tours of southern France in the summer of 2006, Switzerland in the summer of  2007, and France in 2012, and Rome in 2013 and 2015.


In recognition of his many decades of involvement with church choral music, David was awarded  the prestigious Fellowship of the Royal School of Church Music (FRSCM). It was conferred on him at Exeter Cathedral in June 2012.
