The major part of David's professional life has been his role, ultimately as Principal, at Birmingham Conservatoire (now Royal Birmingham Conservatoire), which trains students for the world of professional music, and is counted as one of the most prestigioius schools of Birmingham City University.
As a musician and organist, David has always been particularly keen to encourage young organists to travel and discover the rich diversity of European organ traditions. To this end, he encouraged and supported the annual study weeks abroad for the students of the Organ Department at Royal Birmingham Conservatoire.
David is a past Chair of the Trustees of the Royal College of Organists and has served at various times as a Trustee. He also represented the United Kingdom on the Mundus Musicalis Project of the Association of European Conservatoires, travelling to Canada, Korea and China in this capacity.
He is currently Executive Vice-President of the Incorporated Assocation of Organists and he holds several other trusteeships connected with music education, most recently as President-Elect of the Incorporated Society of Musicians.
